Empowering local communities: SITRANS workshop drives sustainable change

Discussing sustainable economic transition strategies for Western Macedonia.

The MaterLab Laboratory of the Department of Chemical Engineering coordinated a significant workshop in collaboration with the General Directorate of Organization and Development and the Directorate of Private Investments and Innovation of the Region of Western Macedonia. This event was part of the SITRANS project and focused on presenting the project results as well as planning future synergies to support local communities and businesses in the region.

SITRANS aims to support the transition of local communities toward a fair and sustainable economic model.

The workshop was attended by the Head of the Directorate of Private Investments and Innovation, Mr. Dimitrios Stathopoulos, and the Head of the Department for Monitoring and Control of Investment Plans, Ms. Fouka Matina. The coordination was undertaken by Professor Mr. Ioannis Bakouros, supported by the MaterLab team, including Ms. Amalia Kouskoura and Ms. Eleni Kalliontzi.

During the SITRANS workshop, the Transition Observatory Platform was presented, and strategies for sustainable development and a fair economic transition for the Region of Western Macedonia were discussed. Practices and tools to support social and economic reform with the goal of sustainability and the promotion of social equality were highlighted.

The meeting contributed to identifying best practices and formulating specific action plans to strengthen the participation of local businesses in international collaborations. At the same time, strategies were examined to help the regions respond to the challenges of climate change, promote economic growth, and strengthen job creation through public-private sector collaboration in the implementation of innovative solutions.
